It Happens for a Reason

I think we all are often faced with the question “why does God do that?” I think sometimes we want to blame God when something doesn’t go our way. We are only human and this does happen. God knows we don’t understand everything he does.

Over the past few weeks, I began following the story of a 10-year-old girl who had brain cancer. She was the daughter of someone who works in the same facility as I do and so it was hard not to feel a connection. Her mother kept saying how strong of a little girl her daughter was. They all knew this was terminal and that her time on earth would be short. The little girl would say how she was ready to leave this earth and that she knew she had to leave to be in Heaven. She was in a lot of pain and was ready to be done with the battle.

Just recently, the little girl lost her battle with cancer. She was able to be at home with her family where she wanted to be in her final days. Right before her passing, the whole family put their hands in a circle next to each other and took a picture. Now the family is left with that picture and all the memories they shared with her.

Now, after hearing of her death, I had to be reminded of why God does what he does. Someone told me that day, everything happens for a reason. He said, when Coach Thomas died, nobody could understand why it happened. Now the whole world knows his story and people are touched by it.

Such good words. I think it is important to be reminded every once and awhile that God has a plan for us. We don’t always know what that plan is, but it happens the way it is supposed to.

I know I will often be reminded of the little girl, who at age 10, lost her battle with cancer and went to be with God. I know I will always remember Coach Thomas and his story. I hope this gives you motivation on the days where you feel your worst. Remember to thank God and do everything in his name.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

WOW. What a powerful post. As someone who endured an unexpected job elimination (like so many others in our communities), I have questioned God’s plans many times. Now, having started my own business, I continue to question… maybe even make demands. I want to trust that God has a plan for me, yet the reality of bills, expenses, seeking to do more with less is, admittedly, a constant struggle. Like many, I realize that God doesn’t give us more than we can handle — but I wish he didn’t think I could handle this much. What this means to me is that I need to step up, tap into my support system, seek resources, and rely on the “unknown” (God’s plan) which can cause stress and fear. I commit to putting the strengths that God has given me to good use, and I know He has a plan for me … I simply wish He would work at the same urgency as me. =)
