An Inspiration to Many

Lately, I have been thinking lots about the Ed Thomas Family Foundation and what we do, and could do, to help others. Coach Thomas was a person that impacted so many lives and it’s important that others know about what made him so special.

This morning, I was talking to a college soccer player. She has been playing college soccer for four years now. She asked me about who I worked for. I said, well, I work for a foundation called the Ed Thomas Family Foundation, that started in my small hometown after a high school football coach was murdered. Then I went on to start explaining what the foundation is all about.

During this time, I could see the light in her eyes. She said, I heard about what happened. I have heard about the foundation. She said that she was truly inspired by how Coach Thomas touched so many lives.

I then made conversation with her asking about her life as an athlete and a college athlete. I was surprised by what came next. She said, you know, for four years I have attended a Catholic University, and not once has my coached mentioned faith or how we should not just be great athletes, but great people in the community.

That is what set Coach Thomas apart from many coaches. Not only was he an excellent coach, but he was an excellent motivator and friend. He taught that it is great to be successful, but make sure you remember where you came from and remember who was your creator.

Here at the foundation, our goal is to continue the legacy set by Coach Thomas. We encourage you to be a better people, support those around you, and at the end of every day thank God.
