Finding Passion

The only expertise I have on the subject of passion can be summed up in the following statement: Everything I ever really needed to know about passion I learned from Ed Thomas.

The dictionary says passion is a noun, but I think passion is a verb. Passion is a choice we make- it’s not something that magically attaches to us. The terms faith, family, and football describe the prioritized passions of Ed Thomas’s life. The following is a list of behaviors demonstrated by a man with great passion.

  1. Finding your passion starts with identifying your values. You decide what’s most important in your life and then you live according to those values, which is also called integrity. This led Ed Thomas to his true calling.

  2. Finding your passion is internal. You must disregard any negative reactions to your passion that others may have.

  3. Passion is emotional. It leads to relentless positive energy, enthusiasm and intensity. This energy is contagious an inspiring to those around you. Passion can be shared and felt by others.

  4. Passion enables you to persevere during troubled times. It gives you the positive outlook to turn problems into opportunities.

  5. Passion causes you to love what you do. It clearly defines what your job is. It allows you to care more than others are willing to care.

  6. Passion gives you vision. It helps you set short and long term goals. You see positive things happening in your future and it feels good.

  7. Passion provides the motivation to get out of bed in the morning. You wake up energized and look forward to all you will accomplish that day.

  8. Passion causes you to focus. Your priority is moving forward and you are not distracted by negativity or drama. You focus on the good in others.

  9. Ed’s passion empowered him to demonstrate these behaviors every single day.

Colossians 3:23 - And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Challenge-

Don’t wait or hope for passion to strike you. Develop sound values and goals. Live by them and choose your passion.
